Is 1010220 a good deal?

The Telecom*USA 1010220 program has been advertised heavily by well known sports figures.  But is 1010220 really a good deal?  A review of their website (www.1010220.com/rate_domestic.html)  in December of  2003, shows they no longer offer the "20 minutes for just a buck" program and has more than doubled their rates.

The once heavily advertised program that offered you, in our opinion, a questionable deal to start with, is now charging $1 for 15 minutes and 15 cents per minute after that.  This is an incredibly bad deal. .

Take a look at the Table A.  As you can see, if you make a 1010220 call and take 1 minute or less, you pay 99 cents per minute.  Think of it this way:  If you call and leave a message on an answering machine or voice mail, you paid 99 cents to leave that message. That's an expensive message.

If you talk for 15 minutes the 10-10-220 call will cost you $.99  At 20 minutes the same call you used to pay  $.99 for now cost you $1.74.  And now it will cost you 20 cents for every minute after that.

Compare this to  using a service such as Pioneer Telephone at just 2.7¢ per minute for any duration of call or Unitel where all calls can be just  1.64¢ per minute in some areas.   Even AT&T, who is not known for cheap rates, can give you a flat rate of just 7 cents per minute for any duration of call.

If you have a cable modem, the deals can be even better with Voip.   Unlimited local and long distance calls for $19.95 per month.

1010220 Conclusion

If you use 1010220 you may be paying some of the highest cost per minute available anywhere.  We would recommend staying away from this program completely.  You can find a far better deals by comparing other carriers here.

At this time if you must use a 1010 number to dial, we recommend using 1010297.
